I’m all for Cadillac trying you know? But we all know and see they don’t know what they are doing. And customers don’t seem to think that the vehicles, outside of the Escalade are worth the price.

Case in point: witness the 2020 CT6 which adds the V’s Blackwing V8 as the sole engine option on the Platinum trim for ‘20. Its pretty much a luxury trimmed CT6 V but without the V trim.

For 2020 the CT6 just trims down to 2 engine choices and AWD as the only option. Its either the 3.6 or the V8. Both are paired to 10 speed autos. But anyway back to the Platinum trim

It starts at an eye watering $97,490. Standout standard features include:

4.2L Twin Turbo V8 engine, 500 hp and 574 lb-ft of torque

20-way adjustable heated, ventilated and massaging front seats

Rear seat infotainment

20" Platinum Twin 5-Spoke alloy wheels

Kinja'd!!!

The big news besides the V8 for 2020 is that Super Cruise is standard on the Platinum trim. Onstar should be ready for all the calls they are going to get from confused seniors about the green light glowing on their steering wheel. I honestly don’t expect many people to use it or even know the car is equipped with it. But I digress...

There 10 exterior color choices 2 of them (Crystal White Tricoat & Red Horizon Tintcoat) being $600 options. Interior color choices are kind of spartan with this being a 6 figure car. Your only choices are black or cashmere.

There is only one exterior option package as well. For $2,395 the Exterior Accent package consists of 20" Midnight Silver alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. I added this. Other exterior options are an additional stand alone 20" wheel that costs as much as the Exterior package ($2,095) a front license plate bracket and molded splash guards.

Other than the regular accessories of floor mats and cargo organizers etc, there aren’t many other options. Well there aren’t any other options at all I should say, which considering its price tag is kind of disappointing. It goes to show how corporate GM is and also points to the problems with being able to customize what amounts to be a mass market vehicle (production wise).

Kinja'd!!!

As optioned, you’re looking at a 6 figure Cadillac. $101,185. CP. And as much as I would like Cadillac to succeed, I wouldn’t pay this. Better money is spent elsewhere. I never thought I would be saying this, but you can get a Lincoln Continental Black label that looks better for less. It might have less power ( 400 horses is nothing to scoff at) and be FWD, but you will have a better buying experience and more customization as Lincoln assigns a concierge to Black Label buyers to help choose your theme and colors.

But stay on the lookout for V8 CT6s around 2023-2024. They should be fantastic used buys. As are most Cadillac’s.

Theres no way anyone should pay that price at a dealership for this car.

So what you’re telling me is I can get a Blackwing CT6 for about $40k in 2022.

Well, this is a comparable car to the Audi S8, and those are well over 100k, so not all that out of place. Depreciation is our friend  though.

I think it’s a good looking car.  Better than anything BMW is currently offering.  And Audi is pretty bland looking.  Mercedes has been ugly for years.

Right. I think dealers are going to stock one, maybe 2 of these. It’ll be a showroom center piece more than anything.

Comparable to us yea. But not to real world buyers. It might blip some S8 buyers radar, but for the most part this thing is on a totally different planet than an S8 or S65.

If that. I foresee the V’s hanging on to their value through the middle of next decade, maybe more considering the low production nature of them. These Platinum trim cars MIGHT. An d I only say that because I don’ t see many buying them before they go away. So it’ll be one of those great used buys that are hard to find because they sold so few.

I see it sort of being like the CTS V-Sport trims that you can grab a bargain on right now.  The CTS was a good car and then tossing in that TT 3.6L just makes it a great used value.  This could be that, just at a higher point.

Thanks to engine displacement taxes in Europe, this will never sell there.

https://theicct.org/blogs/staff/the-power-of-vehicle-taxation-schemes

Also, I’m really hoping the stated HP+Torque is underrated — VAG & Mercedes have no issue exceeding 600+ hp from their 4.0l V8's

Cadillac has never been a thing there anyway though right?

And hell yes this engine is under rated.

Yeah, not really cross shopped I’m sure.  But for the performance and size, it’s pretty close.  And that’s been caddy’s problem, they want to run with the Europeans, but it’s going to take a lot to get folks to pay euro car prices for a caddy.

I don’t think the lack of options is a big problem as long as it’s loaded with what everyone would want otherwise, with the exception of interior colors and surfaces. That’s where I imagine luxury buyers like to personalize.

The car could be worth every penny, and I still wouldn’t understand Cadillac pricing this car that high. They seem bound and determined to not sell these cars. Or worse yet, to have to fire sale them to clear inventory. It will be humiliating for a car that could possibly  have been a triumph.

Right. They are jumping the gun and ignoring their own history.  Remember the last 6 figure Cadillac that flopped? The XLR-V should still be fresh in their minds.  This thing shouldn’t have crested 80k.

What makes me so sad is that priced and marketed right, they could storm the luxury market (okay maybe not storm, but at least get a foothold ). Aren’t these supposed to be business people above everything? Why can’t they seem to make good business decisions? They have good enough product to make money with it. Augh!

Exactly. I expect there will be examples of these cars selling for $80k or maybe even in the $70s brand new after they have sat for a year. I’d be seriously interested in one at $80k! CT6 is actually a really good looking car IMO.

If CT6 gets the axe, these cars will live in the pile of cars that GM axed just when they got them right.

Nothing makes sense until you look closer and realize their predicament is of their own doing. They make the best vehicles they have ever made right now. But it’s almost too late because the customers that cared left for other brands years ago. And because of alienating those customers, they messed up the brand for potential customers and now customers on both fronts think their cars aren’t   worth it. Combine that with a trash dealer experience and it almost makes you think they don’t wanna sell cars.

All true, but they could still pull it out. The Cadillac name  still has some brand equity. They can do it.  I just can’t figure out whether they don’t know how or don’t care enough.

I think so, but the real issue is that their stock is not comparable in the minds of their target market right now.

GM is p ricing in the 20% discount. Too bad they won’t need it on the (oddly properly priced) new Corvette. Would love that at $48k. Caddy marketing has lost it’s ever-loving mind!

I could not agree more. For business reasons I leased the CTS V6 in 2014 and the CT6 3.0L TT in 2017. The V6 was sluggish in the CTS, but ran on low octane. I have only 2 choices on lease expiration, buy the CT6 or look elsewhere. The 3.0L TT will not be available in the 2020. The CT5 will supposedly get a de-rated 3.0L TT, but I found the CTS to be too small as well. There is not much I don’t like about the CT6, except the 8-speed in the 2017 is clunky and it is a bit floaty even in Sport mode. My wife’s 2009 Mercedes CLK and now her 2019 GLC300's  interiors, especially its dash, controls and wood inserts  are way ahead of the CT6's in quality and appearance...for cars in the $40k range...not $70k.

That’s a bad look for a range topper. The C8 was priced perfectly to wow the world.

Agree but either that’s a $40K engine or the rest of the car has enough tech and features to justify $100K.

So true. But where in the hell is Cadillacs going to sell 6 figure sedans? They would be lucky to sell 2500 in the U.S. and it better have just as good interior as a Bentley.

They are going to sell to the Baby Boomers that are left that can afford them and/or friends of the finance managers at the dealerships. These kinds of vehicles always sale to people like that.

sales persons will be touting super cruise heavily, buyers will know about it. personally, I bought my ct6 platinum almost solely because of super cruise. yeah, not a lot of options, but that’s because platinum already comes with most of them. afaik it’s always come with super cruise, unless that changed for MY 2019.

Hopefully they will. Sales people are terrible with this kind of thing, and while they may tell customers about it, customers for the most part still wont understand it.

Super Cruise is new for 2020. It wasn’ t an option before this model year.
